The Africa Biogas Partnership Programme (ABPP) implements household biodigester market development programmes in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. In Kenya, household biodigester supply is provided by biodigester construction enterprises (fired brick built fixed dome digesters) and by several national and international companies (of-the-shelve plug and flow digesters, floating drum digesters and other models). None of the household biodigester models in the market is cheap and the affordability at potential clients is a serious impediment for biodigester uptake. Access to credit or other financial products can solve this problem. The ABPP is implemented by Hivos and technical assistance is provided by SNV.
ITC Consulting has successfully implemented the Biogas Access Fund (BAF) interim phase. The focus was to engage with donors and investors that are interested in co-funding the further development of the BAF, with a focus on those who have an interest and the available funding to become an anchor investor in the BAF.
This assignment has aimed to:
- Secure initial interest from funders for combined development phase and anchor investor;
- Further fine-tune ABPP activities and progress to optimise the BAF business case.
